Why does the headlight on my dirt bike keep burning out?

I have a 1979 Yamaha IT 250 and I just P
ut a new headlight in and the high beam in the bulb burnt out quick and about 25 min for the low beam. The filament looks pretty melted and white. What could it be? Thanks in advanced!

Buy a new regulator, It doesn't have to be the original for the It... that would be hard to find. any cycle cycle regulator will be fine. I use the cheap-o's on ebay for mopeds. they are $10 and easily handle 100watts or what ever your stator can throw at it. That headlight of yours must be expensive by now too.

did you match your bulb to your bike specs?to me it sounds like that ,or you have a wire grounding out, check wiring harness and /or high low switch
