Why does the Fire Department use Bootcamp tactics in testing potential firefighters ?

I can understand why the military does it. And I dont know whether or not the Police Academy does it, but I can understand why they would. But why is it necessary for a firefighters to go through boot camp style fire training program ?
I understand that part, but why all the Drill seargeant style tactics? I believe the the physical test itself is tough enough. Who needs some phony drill seargeant wannabe's hollering at ya. They guys arent soldiers, they arent going to war.
 
It's about teamwork and discipline. Lack of discipline causes mistakes. In the military and firefighting that means it causes deaths.

Maybe our corporations could learn from this.
