Why does the American media inculcate such childish and immature behavior to Americans?

Ok, im American myself; but when i see other non-Americans my age, they seem to be a lot maturer than the average Americans.

I dont know what the reason for that is. Maybe because they are much more aware than us about the world. We are pretty much sheltered from the real problems of the world by our media, and thus have no worries at all; which can lead to careless/apathetic behavior.

Or it could also be because ppl my age (21 and over) are still sitting in their rooms watching shows like South Park, Futurama and Family Guy (and not getting out to see the world), whereas lots of foreigners are exploring cultures (not sitting in their asses watching those immature shows).

It seriously bugs me that American adults still watch shows like those, and not have any clue about what is going on in the rest of the world. I realize that as Americans, we have been 'blessed' with many things; which is why we think we can be isolated from the world and still be the best. But i find this very immature thinking on our part.

Well, blaming all these problems on the MEDIA is one of those attitudes which helps result in immaturity!

Seriously, some of the most immature people I've met are those without a sense of accountability and responsibility; such people often blame the media for problems.

P.S. You use Futurama and South Park as examples for shows which rot the brain of Americans...? Those don't even compare to the glut of "reality" shows which poison the airwaves, not to mention your average sitcom. Heck, Futurama and South Park and even Family Guy are far more intelligent and clever that most of what you'll see on network TV these days (infinitely more so than any of the "reality" shows!)

Maybe with over 300,000,000 Americans active in our society, when a net-work program has 4-5 million viewers they are successful, the sponsors will keep the trash (program ) on the air. These Great shows are the result of a few people watching shows sponsored by business' to make money. They don't care what's on the air as long as it profits them.
Many of the American I know are in the university's overseas program, some others are touring Europe, or the Australian experience. We do have many outlets here in America, some thing for everyone.
Any 4-6 million group want something on TV, they will get it, no because the sponsors approve, but to make money.
