Why does the American media force regular looking men to downgrade and go for fat/ugly

girls rather than hot? Ok when I say regular guys I don't mean super hot but not hideous either. I noticed in America, more regular guys are with fat/ugly women and dating information always tell men to downgrade. I rarely see a regular guy with a super gorgeous girl in America.
In other countries I noticed more pretty young hot women with regular looking guys.
 
I really don't think the media forces anyone to do anything. It's up to an individual to make his or her own choices based on their own thoughts, or to choose to follow what's common or popular.

As for who you see with whom, it's very likely not looks that draws them together or keeps them apart. Most people look a bit deeper than that.
