Why does temperature decreases as you go up in elevation in the troposphere?

A. you are getting closer to the sun
B. the ozone layer absorbs solar radiation
C. there is less carbon dioxide and water vapor
D. winds speeds get slower
And tell me why please?? I marked C but im not to accurate
