Why does roman history record nothing about a custom to release a prisoner...

...during the passover?
thank you, ruth asher, for having some sense, unlike most of those answering before you! guys, i believe it was never a custom, roman nor jewish, if for no other reason that its totally ludicrious to set free a criminal on 1 of the holiest days amongst a volatile people in the national center for their culture! gimme some credit here!
 
answer: Many of the answers so far are incorrect.

This was NEVER a Jewish custom. That's one of the many errors about the "trial" in the gospels (there are a LOT more)

Thanks! An execution wouldn't have happened on a major holiday either - the Romans were jerks but they didn't want riots either.
