A news station or a news paper is a business, businesses are out to make money, bad news always gets attention out of fear, good news is unrealistic and boring. Crime sells papers magazines and gets ratings.

Unfortunately that's what gives them the ratings. That's what the viewers focus on and gives them the ratings.
