I have an old ladies bike, probably 1950s or 60s. It is the perfect size and I love it. The problem is when I apply the brake, the back tire locks nearly causing a wipeout. It used to do this on occasion and now is almost every time unless I press very gently/slowly. This is making this bike almost useless. I'd look ridiculous taking this old thing to a bike shop. It is a foot brake, and the middle of the back tire where the braking mechanism is is sort of enclosed in a roundish metal section. Sorry, I do not know the names of these parts. I have tried squirting oil inside which helps only temporarily. More than often the tire is jamming and then I have to get off the bike and push pedal forcefully to unjam it. Anybody with some knowledge about bikes know?? Or is it a junker?
I do love this old bike!!
