why does my husband think sex makes up for an argument?

when my husband and i have an argument, he wants to have sex. and then it's as if we nothing ever happened. nothing gets settled. i have talked to friends, co-workers, family and they say this is common with their husbands or boyfriends

Sex = intimacy = everything is okay now.
