Why does my Honda Civic Si engine smell like burnt rubber after I drive it?

I bought a used '08 Honda Civic Si about a week ago. The engine smells like burnt rubber every time after I drive it. I'm not very good at driving the car yet;; I've done bad shifting and have definitely stalled a few times. Is it smelling weird because I'm burning the clutch..?

Hmm. Clutch is feasable, however, its unlikely that a burnt out clutch would smell like burnt rubber, given that a clutch basket is made up of all metal. Also, if you actually are burning the clutch, it will slip when you have the clutch disengaged. Meaning, when your foot is off of the pedal, it is slipping as if you were on the clutch, and therefore not putting all of the engine's power to the wheels. Is it possible that hitting the brakes a little too much? not enough engine braking? Maybe the previous owner didnt lube everything well enough? good luck.

it could be the clutch, but only you know ,if you are burning the clutch out, cause if you bought a manual tranny car, for me you already knew how to drive it right, or if the car is lower it could be the tires hiting or scratching the inside fender

Since you said "I'm not very good at driving the car yet", and the fact that the Civic Si is 6 spd MT. You must be burning the clutch on the car. It smells really bad, the best thing to do is shift it a lower RPMs. I am pretty sure you will get to use to shifting at higher RPMs.

Especially on a newer car with a newer clutch you will definetly smell it if your not shifting right but if your smelling this everytime you drive the car your probably burning up the clutch pretty bad. Press the clutch all the way down to disengage and when you need to go press the gas until the rpm are around 2000 rpm and slowly release the clutch and make sure when you shift you fully press down on the clutch pedal or you'll grind and you'll smell a burning smell.

When your shifting

- 1 let off the gas all the way or almost all the way

- 2 press the clutch in all the way not halfway

- 3 then it's safe to shift

- 4 release the clutch slowly

- 5 while lightly pressing the gas at the same time

... and watch the rpms when your doing this you don't want to rev them up to high while shifting unless you know what your doing and your racing.
