why does my ford explorer rattle so bad?

everytime i go over a bump/pothole/little mess ups in the road my truck rattles really bad. its getting on my nerves. it sounds like the doors arent shut but they are. they dont seem loose, neither does anything else. is it just cuz its old? i was thinkin about worn struts or somethign but it doesnt bounce up and down alot after bouncing the front end which is an indicator of worn struts. its a 1991 4 door v6 4.0L. any suggestions would be appreciated. :)
When was the last time you had the struts replaced?
It can be a lot of things shields on the exhaust can you tell if it's in the front

it sounds like its comming from the backdoors and tailgate. its like they arent shut all the way when i know they are. and squeeks from now and then. i dont know when they were replaced last. i got the truck for free about a year ago from my dads friend.it only has 150k on it. i've never had to check engine lights come on or nothing. i always change the oil like im suppose to and other things. i've replaced a lower radiator hose, tires, battery, ball bearings, and some other things on it. no real transmission/engine problems at all except for it sounds like it wants to quit sometimes if its not warmed up. but thats just fords as i was told. and maybe a bad conenction to the starter because i've encountered a couple times where it wouldnt start. no noise just turned over and nothign happened. i took off the screw on thing from battery on the quarter panel and waited about 15 seconds. put it back on and it was fine. btu thats not the rattle problem. its just pissin me off gettin on my nerves.
