why does my fish tank have hair and all sorts of sh*t in it?

its like a week old and i cleaned all my rocks and EVERYTHING. i have 2 fish now and i just did a water change and all this crap has come up.
its tropical tank. my filter "works" i think. but it doesnt seem to be sucking in much of all the stuff. its the right size for the tank and everything but theres clumps of hair and.. yucky crap all through it. and i just cleaned out my filter. please help
 
More than likely it is from running the sweeper or ceiling fans in the room. (not to say you have hair flying around) but if you have other pets it does. It will sit on the surface of the tank water and will not be sucked into the filter. The other stuff will either settle or get sucked in. simply use a paper towel or a fine net and remove the hair in the tank.
