I have had my puppy (German Shepherd, Lab/Pit bull mix) for two weeks now, she is 15 weeks old we are having some issues with aggression and establishing rank in the household. I am seeking help for that, ie. puppy school, books, lots of socialization, etc. I am sitting here holding here while she is sleeping, but she cries mostly the entire time. I obviously don't want to nurture this behavior if it is a negative one, but I also don't want to deny my dog affection while she sleeps. Does anyone have any ideas why she does this, she's completely vetted and gets tons of attention/exercise, I am wondering if this has to do with submission, or perhaps separation anxiety from her litter mates, or maybe this is just what she does. Ideas?
It is not a loud whine, but a soft almost louder breathing sound. Don't get me wrong, it is still a while. And it is not as though I am holding her upright but having her lean against me. I think it is a normal thing for humans and dogs to sleep together, or at least have her sleep by me.
