Why does my dog insist on eating everything she sees?

I have a female Black Lab that weighs around 80 pounds. She's 5 years old. She's a well trained dog but my only concern is her constant need to eat all the time...This is not something that just started either; she has been grabbing anything in sight since she was a puppy. I would expect that from a puppy but a grown dog? We do keep her active by taking her for a long walk once a day.

Yesterday we had to leave for about an hour. So every time we leave we give her a treat and she lays down. When we got home she had taken a bowl of grapes off the counter, eaten some of the grapes, and then she ate a Zucchini from the counter. Does anyone know why she does this? She also grabs tissues, washcloths, and anything else she can find on the counter.

Also, family is coming over tonight and the dog really gets excited when people come over and she sometimes gets annoying eventually. I was going to give her a new bone to keep her occupied but after what she ate last night I don't know if that's a good idea because I don't want her to get sick...Any suggestions?
Lilly your method with the 'leave it' on the counter sounds great. We do feed the dog once a day and she's been on this diet since she was a puppy. I don't think we can change that now because she's also on a bathroom schedule. She goes outside before everyone leaves for the day. The earliest someone usually gets home is 2:30 but if we fed her then, she'd be eating again at 5. Other than that I think we'll try the other method.
