Why does my CPU usage goes to 100% when playing a flash game?

It's not just with games, but youtube vids, flash games... anything seems to make my CPU usage rocket to 100%...
My computer is virus and malware free, so i have no idea what could be wrong with it...
I'm running XP service pack 3 pentium 4 , 3.20GHz, 1GB RAM abit old but certainly this should not be the problem :(
I've also turned off a few things i dont use on start up through msconfig...
