Why does my computer screen flash so much at 60 hertz?

My computer screen flashes too much at 60 hertz and it hurts my eyes sometimes. How can I stop this? Should I buy a new monitor? Should I just stop using my computer for my eyes sake? Should I just sell my computer right now and buy a Playstation 3 with the money?
 
Because 60Hz is a really slow refresh rate. If you have a CRT monitor, you should be able to bump it up to 72 or 75Hz without problem. That will be much easier on your eyes. If it's an LCD that only supports 60Hz, then, well I guess you just need to spend less time on it.
