Why does my blackberry add a contact 7 times?

i have the new curve with the heat sensitive pad and when i add a contact it adds that contact 7 or 8 times, when i try to delete the extra contacts it deletes all of them. Am i making an error? or is this a phone error? i just got it yesterday.
