I have a '96 jeep cherokee. (automatic). Recently, whenever I am at a light, or stopped with my foot on the break it seems as though my car shakes every now and again. as weird as it sounds, it seems as though it is shivering, or shuddering. It feels like it might just stop running and shudder then turn off. It hasnt. but I want to nip this in the bud.
It just started to happen during the last few weeks. Could it be the cold? or just because it's so stinking old? or am i up the creek without a paddle?

It varies on what kind of "shiver" its doing. It can easily be something as simple as wrapped rotors (your brakes, have a trained mechanic fix them as they're extremely important).

But if it is the engine, as you make it sound, it may be the transmission slipping. If so you will need a transmission rebuild, don't worry! This is common for higher mileage vehicles.

Hope this helps and have an awesome day, hope you get your Jeep fixed!

It's not your brakes...you're at a stop. I had a 93 Jeep Cherokee and the same thing happened to me. There are vacuum hoses under the hood that run to a vacuum canister. I don't know if this is on the later Models but what happened with mine is that one of those vacuum lines melted against something hot by the engine and was leaking. It caused my car to feel like it was going to die or "shiver" sometimes while at idle. Just like yours is doing. The mechanic patched the hose and it went away.
