I just bought it off craig's list, so I dont know much about it. From what I know, everything is pretty good. I changed the oil, spark plugs & battery. I'm going to put in a transmission mount because on hills it jerks as it switches gears. Why does it turn off though? I let it warm up the other morning for about 5 minutes, went to back up & turned off on me, but it starts right back up. The other day i was stopping at a light & it just turns off, but starts back up. What could this be? I'm glad it starts right back up but its embarrassing to just stop in traffic, plus I dont want to be hit. Thanks
already used the fuel injector cleaner in the gas. i'll try the filters. as far as i know the gas gauge works, but with such an older vehicle & a jeep, should I always keep the gas tank full?

Check the wires going into the coil I had a 89 that did the same thing, the wires look good but for some reason they don't make a good contact

The most common cause of this is a broken ground wire for the ecu. It is located at the back of the block on the passenger side. See this post for photos:

make sure u have good connection on ur ignition switch could be losing connection maybe a quick jerk or bump could cause the connection to wiggle and cause the car to shut offf. they just wear out after time.

probably lack of gasoline to the engine.
usually a clogged fuel filter.
change the fuel filter.
next try to use a fuel injector cleaner in the gasoline.
change the air filter.
