happens when a/c is on? works fine when the a/c is on and the car is running, but when i come to a stop and apply the brakes the car shakes. Also the car runs great at a stop sign when the a/c is turned off.

Here's the answer for you. You have a dirty IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. It is a part of your throttle body assembly. Buy a can of Amzoil Foaming Cleaner or "Power Tune" (from a Mercury boat store). These are the same thing. Remove the air snorkel from your air cleaner to expose the throttle body. The foam in the cleaner will dislodge the carbon and dirt that is causing you issues. Follow with a Gum-out chaser. For even better results, remove the factory plugs, which are low performers, and install a set of Bosch Fusion or Nippondenso Iridium plugs. You will gain about 10-15% more power, and your A/C will no longer affect idle or power produced. These plugs react with fuel and improve overall drive-ability. You will gain valuable MPG's as well and lower emissions.

When the a/c is on, it puts stress on the engine and takes horsepower away from the engine driving the a/c pump, basically puts a load on the engine. You probably need a tune-up or your a/c system checked for leaks and recharged. You should be able to get a free estimate from a reputable service shop...
