I have a 1996 Cherokee Country with about 170000 miles on it. Over the past couple months, I've had some issues cranking it. I will have to put my foot to the floor on the gas pedal for it to completely crank, and when it does I can normally take my foot off the gas and it will even out the RPM's, but recently, it will sit there and sputter and choke out, and I'll have to crank it again, and leave my foot on the gas and keep the RPM's above 1000, or it will cut off. It also smells VERY heavily of gas when I do this. I can hear my fuel pump recharging when I turn the ignition to "On", and checked the schrader valve, it does have fuel pressure, a buddy said it seems as though there isn't enough oxygen getting added in, does that sound legitimate? I just replaced the fuel filter, and double checked that there are no leaks in the line, and I don't think there are. If you need more info, please feel free to ask. I greatly appreciate any assistance that may be provided.
I'll add some more about what I've done to the jeep over the years. I got it in 2000 and it had 36000 miles on it at that point in time. 2 years ago I replaced the radiator, it had a hole in it. They also replaced the water pump too. I try to regularly replace the fuel filter as well, along with oil and filter changes. I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor about a year and a half ago, and got a can of Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner upon the suggestion of the auto parts store person. Other than that, just routine maintenance has been done, the jeep has never been wrecked or anything.
