Why does FEMA continue to bankroll coastal Louisiana?

$730,000,000.00 in Mitigation money alone for Katrina, flooding continues, flood insurance is not actuarial for this region, and politicians pressure USACE and FEMA to certify levees and use uncertified levee information on flood insurance rate maps.

I wonder this myself. Choose to live in an area that is below sea level and then cry when you get flooded. Sense. This makes none.

I live on an island 5 feet above sea level. I LOVE it here. But I am under no illusions. If a catagory 4 or 5 storm approaches, I can be out of here with all the worldly posessions I care about in 2 hours and I will never look back.

I will certainly NOT asked to be bailed out by my fellow citizens.

FEMA is the only organization that pays out flood insurance claims. State Farm, All State, etc etc will laugh in your face if you try to make a claim with them.

As far as mitigation money goes, Katrina wiped entire towns off the face of the earth that were above sea level. New Orleans isn't the only place that got hit

That's what happens when a certain group of people become so accustom to hand outs from the government to make up for a crime that happened to their distant ancestors. When will liberals learn that when you give people an inch they will demand a mile in exchange for their votes. When we allow poor people to vote, they will always vote for the people that promise to give them more hand outs.

They should abandon government in any town that is within 2 miles of a coastline that is below sea level. Revert all government land back to "wildlife preserve". If you own your property, you can stay there if you want, or sell it to some tree hugging organization like "The Sierra Club" who will then donate it to the government and it will become an even bigger wildlife preserve. Let them put their money where their mouth is.

Keep ONLY the pipeline and port open, but as far as civilians not working directly for specific industries, if you get fucked over by nature, too bad.

i live in "the low country" my house is 9 feet above sea level within a couple hundred feet of tidal water. if we got a storm we would be fucked, however i properly insure my home against both hurricane and flood claims so i wouldnt need the government to pay for my shit when the storm came

this is just another example of those not willing to take care of themselves needing everyone else to pay for their shit when trouble comes

post firm, and my county is getting re-rated on maps right now effective sometime in 2012. I pay about 700 a year for max FEMA coverage

What's your flood zone?

We're in a C right now and we pay about $350 a year. If my house flooRAB though, considering how far inland I am, we've got some major issues.

I just looked up rates for zone A for a lot we looked at last weekend. $$$$$$

Well that's the joy of a "Preferred Risk" policy vs real rates. All it takes is some brush or trash in one culvert and you too can be flooded.
