I mean seriously. I must have tried 10 different phones from various companies (Nokia, Motorola, LG, Samsung, etc), and the quality of the call all SUCKS on them. I'm not talking about reception, but the sound of the voice. All these new phones sound like some 8kbps mp3 - muffled, distorted, compressed, and difficult to understand. If as if someone is talking through a pillow. Meanwhile my 4 year old Samsung phone (r225) which came for free (no color screen!) sounds nearly as good as my land line. Its the same service, same location. I switch out the SIM from my old phone and put it into the new one. The new phones sound like crap, while my old one sounds great.
I just don't get it. So much attention is going into having these phones play movies, video's, mp3's, cameras, etc, yet they neglect the most important part: talking with others! Is there ANY new phone out there that can sound as good as my ancient Samsung? Or is there someway I can get the call quality up on these phones? I've read stuff about codec's and companies using HR and not EFR, though i'm not sure if this makes a difference. I just want to be able to understand that the person on the other end is saying.
