Why does every little tradition we have today have its own history and explanations?

It seems logical, but odd. Bridesmaids carry flowers during a wedding, because in Shakespearan times, women carried flowers during a wedding to hide body odor. Certain cultures hold a 'wake' before a funeral, where the body is laid out on the dining room table. This was because a long time ago, people who passed out when drunk, were thought to be dead, so family and friends laid them out, hoping they weren't actually dead and would 'wake' up. Hence the tradition and name of a wake.

Why can't some things just be tradition? I mean, I know this sounds odd, but the explanations are usually weird, odd, or gross. Why can some things just happen because they happen? This is such a confusing question! Do I make any sense?
