Why does China insist on being in the same class as Haiti? Is Haiti equal to China?

Why is it that China insists on being called a "developing" country? Do they understand that this puts them in the same class as Haiti? Do the Han Chinese think that the Haitians are just as advanced as they are? Do the Chinese people want to be treated just like the Haitians are? What would be an example of the USA treating China just like it does Haiti?
