Why does beer taste better when it has a nice head?

I love a dark refreshing cold glass of beer, and while I enjoy the whole glass, no portion of my drink is more enjoyable than those first sips while a frothy head lingers. But why? Does it taste any different? Is it the feel of the suds on my lip? What is it that makes that sip so much better than any other? Really, I don't get it.

Pouring a beer so that it forms a head releases the esters and hop aromas from the beer. Since smell is strongly connected to taste, the smell as you drink the beer enhances the taste.

I firmly believe that one drinks or eats with their eyes first! It is pretty and luxurious! That makes the experience all the better! Cheers!
