Why does bad news sell more newspapers and increase tv ratings?

Why do people want to hear the constant message of war, death, famine and plague? As opposed to good news.

Or does bad news rely on people's insecurities, or do people take a vengeful delight that the bad stuff isn't happening to them.

People are morbid. Jealous of those well off, they look to feed their minds with the ill. 'Good news' is ''boring'' for many.
