why does america spend over 700 billion us dollars on military yearly?

In short it is called the military industrial complex.......Think about it. We went to war in the name of WMD's.......And they didn't actually exist...... That is pretty sad.
 
The US military normally works as a peacekeeping and security force for other countries in the world and therefore needs to spend money on maintanence.
 
Because most of the world basks under the umbrella of security the USA provides, with little or no contribution.
 
I don't understand why they do it, since they can't even afford it.

And to the first answer with all the thumbs up.......most of the planet basks under the umbrella of US security?

How does the EU or Japan or Canada or Australia bask under US security for example?
How would they need it, their is no threat from anybody.

And if most of the world relies on US security.......Where was the US military when Russia invaded Georgia?
Where is the US military in all the places in Africa where genocide is occurring?
You don't provide security for anyone unless the US can gain something from it or it helps your interests.
When was the last time China started a war with someone? If your talking about defending most of the planet then you must be talking about defense from the larger Countries......You didn't help Georgia, and you wouldn't help any small country if China started to bomb them to shit, so stop talking crap.

besides, have no fear the new admin as with all dem admins will be reducing this to near seditionist levels.
 
It was once said that "the best offense is a great defense". So to keep ahead of any threats, now and in the future, to keep America the strongest and best equipped and trained fighting force in the world the money must be spent.To not do so would leave us open to other countries pulling ahead, eventually, and making bigger threats to the world. If not us staying strong, then who?

What always happens if we don't use it

the US just lets go~~

and after awhile another war will come along

another 911 and the country will go hog wild

and build up the Military again and again spending even more $$$

The Government does not know how to stop going back and forth

in Politics

Every 8 years we change parties ~this has been like this since

FDR~~why would it stop doing this now?

After the Democrats outspend themselves people will get tired of

this party and switch back to a more conservative Party
