It is just so aggervating cause i still have to wear stretch pants all the time i tried blue jeans but the scar goes to the middle of my stomache and around my belly button so the button is right where it hurts the worst. Tried the hip huggers but uh they are not for me but i may have to get used to them.

KYMA i dont go back to the doctor untill the end of next month. I have tried calling but it is a teaching hospital and i intend to ask the doctor if there is a private line i could leave a message on cause i know they see like over 200 people a day. That is the only thing i hate so i have a hard time getting through which i know is not fair. I just had to learn to deal with it beings that they go by income as being able to pay and beins that the surgery was probably more than my hubby makes in a year i dont have to pay anything.

EMILY i was supposed to do therapy but due to money problems i can not do it and i could have had it done at the hospital but its like 3 and a half hours away. So driving there for my back is enough to have to do.

But i am definitly going to ask i will do like i had to do before call until i get through. Thanks for the replys.

The incision on my stomache from the front entry hurts so bad does any one know why it just hurts to the touch? Is it going to always be like this?
I finally get the stinging feeling in back incision to go away and now its the front. UUGGHH

It really does sound like how I felt with my scar tissue. I felt like my belly button was anchored inside and it really hurt.

I can tell you how I was taught to work the incision. It's so easy, it will seem like you're not doing anything, but it works.

Plant the fingers of both hanRAB along the incision, lined up in a row right over the incision. Gently move the whole incision up and down for 30 seconRAB or so, then back and forth for 30 seconRAB or so. Move your fingers all together in the same direction all the time. You don't want to be pulling apart on the incision. If your fingers don't cover the whole incision, move them to a new section and repeat until the whole incision has been worked.

I did this once in the morning and once in the evening. I have long arms and a short body, so I was actually able to reach my back incision, too. My therapist did it much better, of course, but I could reach most of it well enough.

I hope this helps.

Take care,
Emily

Is it red around the incision? That would indicate infection.

Do you keep it covered all the time-sometimes you need to let skin breathe to heal.

If it seems to be infected PLEASE call your doctor.

Emily ~

When you read about failed back surgery caused by scar tissue, or scar tissue building up and entrapping nerves, I assume that is something different from this scar tissue around the incision??

no i know its not infected i just dont know why it hurts like it does i had fusion surgery 4 and a half months ago. Yea i always have it covered.

It could be scar tissue starting to build up. I had pain around my incision after a few months, too. I never thought it could be scar tissue, but when I started PT, I mentioned it to my therapist and she showed me how to work the incisions to break up scar tissue. Within a day, it hurt less. Within a week, it didn't hurt at all! She worked it for me at each appt, as she could do it more thoroughly than I could, but I also worked it myself everyday. If you're still in PT, you might ask your therapist about it.

Scar tissue can continue to build up for a full year, so I did it daily for my first full year. Occasionally, if I feel a tiny bit of tightness, I work it now, but it's been months since I needed to. My last fusion was Sept 06. I worked it after the hardware removal, too, and never had any problems from that.

Hey TMV I sort of think the same way Emily does on this. I know I have one spot on my front incision and the skin is very tough around the incision(about the size of a quarter) and I am sure it must be scar tissue. Sometimes it will get a burning and stinging pain and pulling sensation in that one section. It is strange that it hurts to touch so that confuses me too but maybe there is a superficial nerve somewhere near that area. I still have the problem in my back with the stinging and hurting so I am hoping it will go away soon. I hope it gets to feeling better soon. When do you go back to the doctor?

Take care

Thanks Emily i will definitly try it!! Sorry im slow at getting back to everyone i am in and out getting all 3 kiRAB ready for school the 14 year old is going to 9th. Its just so exhausting.

I think that must be much deeper down. I'm pretty skinny. I don't have a "deeper down." :D But I'd think for a normal sized person (not a bean like me), that possibility is there, for scar tissue to form where this method won't reach. My therapist called it "deep tissue work" and she really got in there. I think if a skilled therapist was doing it. some of that deeper scar tissue could be broken up, too.

HI there. I agree with Emily, your tissue is in the process of mending and healing. At the dermis (skin) level, you really want to try and gently massage around that area, to help it along by stretching it out some and less likely to form less scar tissue at this level. Mind you we are all made different. My scars are barely visible, whereas, a few frienRAB of mine, have horrible scarring at the incision site(s).

I had this pain and tightening you are describing and my PT actually put a breast pump (sounRAB crazy huh) on my back and ran it gently around the incisions from the surgery, early on, and it took all that tight feeling completely away. I was skeptical when she said what she was going to do, but was amazed at the results of her thinking outside the box technique. lol.

At 4 months post op, why are you still needing to cover your incisions?

I know it's frustrating.. but just give yourself a bit more time for those incisions to heal more. In short order.. you will be back in your regular jeans again. I recommend the type now that have some stretch to them, verses the more rigid types for now. Just as stylish and not quite so binding. :)

Thanks justoneofus i dont really mean cover it with anything more than clothes im sorry if i meant any more i havent really had to cover it cause it has never given me any problems. I bought alot of cute capri pants at a garage sale that were maternity i mean you cant tell unless you look at the tag and they had the streating front on them. I have massaged it but it is hurting now mor than ever so i think i will wait a while i have been getting in and out of the car so much and it has been pulling alot but i have no choice cause at least all 3 of the kiRAB school is tomorrow. So i can rest a little.
