Why do you think Auguste Rodin's sculpture 'The Thinker' became so famous?

I think that the 'The Thinker' is actually not one of his better works. I would say that "The Gates of Hell", "St. John the Baptist Preaching" (my favorite), and "The Burghers of Calais" are more exceptional. So why then, in your opinion, did "The Thinker" become so famous?
 
I agree. The Gates of Hell and St. John are far more spectacular than his Thinker sculpture.

The Thinker is an easy to digest representation of Rodin's work and it also displays a genuine human emotion that most people can connect with on a personal level. It also appeals to the intellectual and art societies because it symbolizes intellectualism. These two sides combined with the satire it received in T.V., Movies, and other media outlets made it a work to remember.

In general most would not care to understand the depth or reasoning behind the innovative sculpting style Rodin had.
