Why do you need three control plates in a cell transformation lab?

Why do you need all of these to be controls: LB+ plasmid, LB- plasmid, and LB- plasmid with ampicillin.

(The LB+ plasmid is experimental.)

So I know why LB- plasmid with ampicillin is useful. But what is the role of the other two?? What do they show about the experiment?
