Why do you have to pay 25 dollars more every month to get the motorola cliq?

Its about $34 a month which is for unlimited data and text messaging

All new Android operating system based phones need a data plan in order to be activated
When you turn the phone on it asks for gmail account info or to make one, in which you need the data plan to have the internet on, also for Cliq which is a "social networking" phone you kind of need internet access in order to use it as that otherwise its just a regular phone

in my opinion if you do not want a to pay extra for data plan then get a regular phone and not a smartphone.
