Why do you come into an area of people discussing something you don't believe in?

And then patronize and ridicule them, and give people thumbs down for answering the question in the context that it was asked, and thumbs up for the people who are being rude?

Okey dokey I agree there are scientific explanations but that doesn't mean that you have to patronize people who think it might be something more.

For example I have seen answers telling people they are crazy, schizophrenic, making things up, etc.

For example here is a list of answers:

Please ground yourself in reality before it is too late... unless it is already, in which case you can't be helped.

I believe they call it pulling-your-leg-kinesis.

Stop watching movies and thinking the stuff in them is real... Please?

Can you see where I am going with this? People are being just plain rude, and not answering on any kind of "scientific" aspect. And then for the people who are answering the questions seriously have 2-4 thumbs down on them. Why?

Seeing as you will see no questions asked by me on this board, and very little answers, I just like to read up on people and their experiences. I don't believe in a lot of this either, so you can quit the patronizing talk with me, as I was a Math/Science major and recently switched to Accounting. What I don't understand is why people feel the need to be so rude?

No one seems to be answering that question.

Eri, you just got 2 thumbs down, I don't know why! I didn't do it, I promise but this is what I'm talking about! I like your answer best and will choose you as best answer but it's like on this board when someone comes along and stops being rude and mean and talks real, they get thumbs down! It's insanity I tell you! lol

I just like to speak my mind and state my opinion. Reading what people believe is also something I enjoy. Maybe give a reason why not to believe in something. Sometimes give a link that will be interesting to someone.

The most important reason for me. Maybe just maybe, someone will come up with something. Beyond boasting and making up stories.
Here's another thing you might not realize. Those of us here that don't believe Telekinesis, astral travel, ouija's and haunting. A lot of us were here first. We kind of have squatting rights.

Like many others have pointed out, this IS the science section, not the religion section. Yahoo has said that they put the paranormal section here to get scientific responses, and if you post here, that's what you'll get. Many of us are actually scientists. Many of us have studied the evidence for these claims. Many of us wanted it to be real at your age too, and many of us thought it was - and many of us were disappointed, many people were cheated out of their health, money, and sanity, and are now here to warn others.

Suggesting someone might have a medical condition is not an insult. You can't deny many people do have medical conditions, and these can lead them to see/hear things that don't exist. It is always a possibility that should be checked, since often they can lead to serious conditions.

Answering a question seriously and posting something ridiculous can go together. Just because someone was being serious does not mean they were right. And that's what the thumbs-down is for.

I drop by this section every few days and have done for a while. With one or two exceptions, I rarely see the 'skeptics' being impolite or inappropriate. I've seen far more impolite answers by 'believers.' I've never reported one of them.

Wushu? "pulling-your-leg-kinesis." is genius. LMFAO :)

you mean like people coming into the science and math section who dont believe in science and math?

edit: I think only once in answers did I suggest someone consider the fact that they might be suffering from mild schizophrenia, which was most recently. That person was suffering from hallucinations and delusions that were threatening to destroy her family, and she wanted to believe she was talking to the dead. I have no regrets about ever recommending someone to seek medical help first.

The pulling-your-leg-kinesis answer was a question someone asked who was most obviously having her leg pulled by her friend and didn't realize it. Again, there is little question that this was the case, so I have no regrets in giving that answer.
