Why do we need to wind Grandfather clocks?

My Physics teacher told me to find out why we need to wind Grandfather clocks everynow and then. I think it has to do with the fact that when the pendulum swings it's cycle grows slower and slower over time due to the force of Gravity.

Could I get some Help on this from others please?
