Why do we interview celebrities for their views on political and other current events?

Clearly average people in America will have more interesting, if not more conclusive thoughts and arguments than celebrities who are by bound by their publicists and their desire for the love of the people.

Are we honestly to believe that our voices should be overshadowed by what celebrities say or "tweet" or put on "facebook"?
