Why do Vegetarians not eat fish?

Ok, so I'm a 16 year old Vegetarian. I know that eating fish is accepted by some vegetarians, not by me though, but I just wanted to know exactly WHY? Can fish feel pain? I've been arguing with my parents a lot about it? Can you help me prove them wrong? Thanks!
