Why do they sometimes draw molecules sideways in organic chemistry textbooks?

For example, instead of drawing a cyclohexene with one of its flat sides laying parallel to a line (like a line in your notebook, for example) it is drawn kinda sideways with it resting on one of its corners instead. Why?
