big advantage to building a dynasty? There has been alot of talk about the Montreal Canadiens use of Territorial Rights, which allowed that team to select the best players from Quebec even before other Origional Six teams could build. Since 1979, when the remnants of Territorial Rights basically disappeared Montreal has won a grand total of Two Stanley Cup since 1980, proving once and for all the numbers dont lie. Without Territorial Rights, they have become Stagnant and rather Ordinary in the Hockey World.

I think the simple answer is a form of denial. To admit that the territorial rights helped them would admit that their Championship numbers are inflated compared to the teams that came in since the expansion. However we already know they are when you factor in how few teams played for the Cup for some of the time. I think they just don't want to admit they had an advantage over expansion teams. Do you really think they want to admit that since the territorial rights ended they have as many Stanley Cup Championships as the Penguins?

cry me a river, then freeze it and montreal would probably win the stanley cup on it
