Why do the media / police put out ( into public) the value of drugs?

People want to see where their tax dollars are going.
People want to see what the police are doing.
To say that the deparment took $x# of drugs off the street is positive news....It's a lot different than most of the things the media choses to report on.

Most people have no idea how much a kilo or cocaine is. They might know what a kilo is, but have no idea if that means a minor drug dealer was taken off the streets, or if this is a major arrest. It simply gives you an idea how big a deal it was.
It's no different from saying a fire or flood or storm caused X number of dollars in damage.

They are trying to justify the endless, disastrous and job creating drug war.
