I have put both of my children in play pens from time to time. When I've mentioned this to a select few people, I've gotten some weird looks, one woman actually told me that its cruel, as its like putting them in a cage.
What is the big deal? I let my son crawl around, play & get exercise too. But let's face it, we mom's need to get things done sometimes and its pretty hard to do when you have to chase a baby around. The play pen is a safe place for them. I see absolutely nothing wrong with them as long as you aren't leaving them in there for long periods and they are still getting necessary play time outside of the playpen.
