Chivalry is dead. Women demanded equal treatment, and they got it. Now men treat women like they treat other men, as competitors, not as a separate class deserving of special treatment.
But so many still think they are not only entitled to equality (which i agree with) but also the special treatment afforded them back when they were dependent on men for their survival in this world.
I do not give up my seat on the bus for able-bodied women. I do not go out of my way to help them or let them go ahead in lines, and am sometimes accused of having bad manners or not being a gentleman because of it.
My supervisors are women, my doctor is a woman, I see women all around me who have good careers and make more money than I do, so I do not owe them any chivalry or anything else just because we happen to have different genitalia. That's stupid!
Women cannot have their cake and eat it too.
Hey Lawrence, then why do so many women go out with complete tools that beat them up when they try to have any kind of life outside serving them? And go back to them over and over again. Is that what you call respect? A lot of women seem to love guys that disrespect them.
Hat sauce, no they're not equal in every aspect, but we're not unequal enough that they deserve special treatment. that's left over from the days when a woman could only find a husband or join a convent. i'll get over myself if you do.
Pamela Martha I absolutely do not think women should be unwilling housewives and I was pretty clear about that in my comment above. I believe in equality, I do not believe in special treatment for my equals.
Loewe, you're wrong. Just because you know a few struggling women does not mean their situation hasn't improved by leaps and bounds in just the last few decades.
Women are even better off than men in a lot of aspects. They are surpassing men in educational and career goals rapidly. There are very few charities for struggling men compared to women, that's why you see so much fewer homeless women. Men live shorter lives due to poorer health and are twice as likely to commit suicide as women. (Women however, are much more likely to make a weak attempt in order to get attention.)
I was in the hospital just a week ago and most of the docs that saw me were women, as well as the other high paid professionals there.
It's rapidly becoming a woman's world, so I sure as hell am not giving up my bus seat.
