Why do some people seemingly put more effort into eating than watching the film?

I had it today when I went to see 2012 - a woman behind me had coke, popcorn and a packet of something and she seemed more concerned with getting the packet open and scoffing her face than actually watching the film.

(And yes, RAB comedians, I know she may have been hungry )

But then it's not the first time i've seen it - people spending shedloaRAB of money on vastly overpriced food and having the equivalent of a 4 course bloody meal each time they go to the cinema.

With the amount of food this woman had, added to the ticket price, she probably didn't have much change from about

I agree.. We went to the advanced previews of Paranormal Activity (which was great) and all we heard was packets rustling all the way through, which kinda spoiled the spooky atmosphere of the film..

You'd think someone would have cornered the market in rustle free wrapping for cinema sweeties by now wouldn't you.

Instead they seem to come in extra crinkly bags.

I'd say bring back the pots of sweets - they make less noise. I think that's what the cinema I work for is doing - need to get rid of the old ones first though!

If I ran my own Cinema (I wish...) I'd do away with food all together and just let people bring their own.

That way, I could drop the ticket price to a couple of quid a ticket and just pack people in.

I'd go for other revenue streams like selling movie memorabilia and dvd's.

I used to love eating the nachos with salsa and cheese at Showcase as they really smothered the nachos in the sauce and cheese but then they got stingy and only gave you a miniscule pot of salsa and a bit of cheese so I stopped buying them. Other than this I don't eat popcorn as it makes me cough and i cant stand hearing rustling packets so don't eat any chocolates either.

Popcorn and films go hand in hand so why wouldnt people eat at the cinema? It's not like the volume is low and someone opening minstrels would drown out the sound of the film so whats with the complaining?

Hmm, I never eat in the cinema anymore, the prices really are getting ridiculous  Then again, I do go 3 times a week so would be mega expensive if I did. I dunno why people can't sit for two hours without eating though

Ok, so if you were at home and the person next to you was constantly rustling their wrappers and crunching, sniffing and slurping like a pig, would you find that acceptable, would you not say something? I don't have a problem generally with eating in cinemas, but for crying out loud think of others around you please!

I went to see Inglorious BasterRAB and several rows in front of me were three old women, each with large boxes of popcorn and several plastic bags. In the first thirty minutes of the film (which is all quiet dialogue) they proceeded to trough their way through the popcorn, then started pulling out extra large packets of Doritos which they passed back and forth.

I came close to committing three murders...

And that's a real shame, but sadly the cinema is often not a nice place to be. I generally try to go weekdays, morning or early afternoon if I can, but obviously that's not always possible.
