Why do some people not like it when you show interest in their culture?

I know I can be obsessive....but my interest is genuine. However, I had a conversation with this girl yesterday...I really love her culture and community and I wanted to talk to her to learn more. I told her I wanted to visit her country...and she seemed taken aback by it. For reason I dont think she liked that at all. I dont understand what I did or said wrong. Her other friend completely ignored me which made me think he was offended by it. I really felt sad because it made me feel like I said something wrong.

They were really cautious and didnt seem to want me to visit their country. I understand, maybe it is not special to them because they are from there...but still?

I love their culture and I would never have bad intentions...

We all love different things..some people love Europe..others love Asia..some love the Middle East and Latin America...
Everyone better love Africa...hehe

Some people may be ashamed of their own country, so they're uncomfortable when they're on the spot to talk about their country. Which I think is quite sad. I'm just like you, I love learning about another culture, and I currently spend numerous times with this very smart girl from Iran that tells me about every history that beautiful country has gone through!
