Why do some people believe News Corporations have to tell the exact truth?

There is no strict law against not reporting the exact truth.
So why do people believe that news corps. do?
After all they are trying to make money, right?
If you just do simple research of the past 100 years of American News, you'll find your own government admitting to using the news to "stretch the truth" and "twist facts."
Being in the past makes it seem like it isn't happening now. But honestly, I'd like to think my government doesn't lie to me, but it would be naive to think so. When there are people in the government telling me the other party lied. Who am I supposed to believe if there are two sides of the story from "one" government.
What I think the problem is that some people just can't accept today that their party is doing something wrong. When they know it. Thoughts please, remember I am as neutral as there can be neutral, today.
 
The founding fathers decided that freedom of the press was the best way to fight the tyranny of official spin. Not sure that they ever considered the tyranny of the marketplace.

Unfettered press, multiple news sources, being able to read nuances, and understanding the bias of the source is the way to understand what is going on.

But there really isn't just one truth in life. Example: Biden's wife says Joe had the choice of VP or Secretary of State. Obama officials say he was only offered VP. Can both be the truth? Yup. "Joe, I'm thinking either VP or Sec of S. What do you think?" "I like VP" "OK, would you be my VP?" Both are correct.
