being called African American? 1. no black person in America today has ever been enslaved by 19th-century American slavetraders
2. Many slaves (i don't have an established number but I know it was a large amount) were sold to the slavetraders by African tribes who had conquered the slave's tribe, so in many cases whites were responsible for nothing more than bringing already-enslaved people to America.
3. no one is responsible for any crimes their ancestors may have committed
4. Blacks who are in America as a result of their ancestors being enslaved probably all have it better here than they would have if they'd been born in Africa.
5. people only get to be called African-American if they're actually FROM Africa. My grandparents were Irish but that doesn't mean I get to call myself an Irish-American.
Any thoughts or opinions on this?
And since this is 21st century, PC America, I'm going to go ahead and say now that I have nothing against blacks in general - I just don't like people thinking they deserve special treatment just because their ancestors had it rough. Unfortunately, a lot of blacks in America have this mentality.
