Why do some authors reveal so little about their characters? Like only describing what they wear and what is their name and thats it?

Is it so the reader can feel more interested? want to read more?

Can someone please explain why?

It's because all the authors are all old perverts and they don't want to get themselves too excited when their writing. Tard.

Yes mainly to create a sense of mysteriousness in the character. Like in The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is not introduced in the beginning but we see a few name drops-this sort of creates a mysterious atmosphere around him which builds up to the point we meet him.

to add mystery and also so the reader can imagine what they look like to create interest
