Some, the ones usually see stealing headlines on the news, rant about racism for their own personal gain.
Things are better now, but they aren't completely better. Just because we no longer have "colored fountains" and "colored restrooms" doesn't mean that the racism isn't there. It's just very, very hard to see. Yes, "white" people are far less racist than they had been in the past, but the bigotry is still endemic to our culture. It's also still prevalent. A professor just hired by MIT had finalized arrangements to rent a house in a nice neighborhood had the homeowner turn him down at the last minute because he was black. "What would the neighbors think?" was her reasoning.
Studies show that black and hispanic people are given significantly higher interest rates in mortgages and loans than white people who are less qualified. Studies also show there still remains problems in employment, particularly when it comes to pay and promotion. There are problems with equality in health care. There are still problems with the cultural view of black people as criminals, particularly teenagers in poor areas. The idea that white people are smarter than black people still persists. The laws might have changed, but the culture still needs work. The only way the culture will continue to change its perceptions is if people refuse to tolerate the racism.
Yes, black people are just as racist as white people and hispanic people and native american people and the list goes on until everyone's on it. Yes, some black people want more than what's due because it's easier that way. To say "all" or even "most" are that way is wrong. Most are good people that just want the same rights and privileges everyone else has. It's that way with every race in every society, I believe.
Their home is not Africa. Their land is not right there in Africa. Their home is right here where they were born, where their parents were born, and their parents before them. African-Americans are native Americans with an African heritage. They have every right to demand equality because, after all, it is our own nation that wrote "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men were created equal."
I have yet to meet a lazy black person. You shouldn't only see the media-hogs and miss everyone else. As for Africa's lack of racism, I would refer to that as wistful thinking, not reality. South Africa, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Nigeria, and this list can go on, as well.
