why do so many people take dangerouse jobs in the military?

A lot of people want the challenge of getting into such a prestigious group and some thrive on the adrenalin they get from being in the action. The majority join the military with no such expectations and later find that they are very good at being a soldier. A lot of them win shooting competitions and discover they pick up the skills really easily. Others just bust their ass off to get in because it's the only thing they want to do.
 
If you have to ask, you'll never understand. You would have better luck explaining the color red to a person blind from birth.
 
Not exactly sure. I wanted to serve but I didn't want to jump straight into combat so I went with the Navy. Served 5 years and only felt my life was in danger a few times. Got targeted by a missile ship once, mortars launched at me once on the ground in Iraq, got a rope wrapped around me once and almost got pulled off the ship by a tugboat. (Would've been crushed between our ship and the tug)
And all I did was aircraft record keeping as my main job.

I guess what I'm saying is every job in the military is inherently dangerous.
 
some take the more dangerous jobs for the challenge but for the most part they take it cuz those are the jobs that are offering the most bonus money
 
because you get to do sh!t some people only dream about

you only have one life... and i rather give it my all and die young rather than live old and have regrets

i have two years left before i can apply for JTF2, but for now i'm an armoured soldier and love it

most of the people i know who take dangerous jobs do it because they strive to be the best. they don't want to look back on their lives and say look i can do that but so can 6 trillion other people they would rather say i am the best and i am a member of a select few
 
Adrenaline, cockiness, alpha male syndrome, mental illness, desire to do what they feel is best for their country. It can run the gamut of reasons and not all are bad.

Its not a game though - video game wars are fun. In reality people are dying. My ex husband (Command Sgt Major in Army) watched one of his soldiers die in his job (EOD - Explosive Ordinance). His duty was to go along the roads in Baghdad and look for the IED's and take care of them. One exploded and he lived for 20 min with a big hole in the back of his head while begging my ex to get his girlfriend.

While the dangerous jobs may sound glamorous, remember its deadly and NOT Hollywood. I wish you the best.
