voluntarily belong? Yes, the Catholic Church does prohbit remarriage without annulment, it also takes a dim view of fornication, homosexuality, does not admit women to the priesthood, in the Roman rite, priests are celibate, abortion is not allowed, etc. What I don't understand is why so many adult Catholics get so angry about this and demand reforms whilst still taking Communion. First of all, unlike America, the church has never represented itself as a democracy, so there's no voting on the issues. You're powerless to change it as a lay person. No one is forcing you at gun point to belong to the church ( at least I hope not) and there are several other more liberal churches, so why do these people complain all the time, "my church needs to change, they need to let me use birth control" or "why can't I remarry now that I'm divorced?" Well, my answer is because you have voluntarily, of your own free will, chose to remain in an undemocratic organisation which demands these things of its voluntary members. Makes about as much sense as a carnivore joining a vegetarian club and ranting about its policies.
