Why do Republicans complain about the deficit?

When their last 3 Presidents increased the debt dramatically and Clinton almost had us in a surplus. I know Obama's doing horrible with the deficit, but why should I believe a Republican would be any better.

Is it just that they disagree on how we spend the money in deficit?
Notice how I never said there was a surplus. I've done my research; he was close to one, but not exactly there.

Conservatives are very angry with the Republicans who ran up debt.

I think the difference is, Bush's debt was created due to conflicts in the middle east. Whenever you invade another country, you don't know what will happen. I don't think it was Bush's intention to run up debt. I am a Republican and I think invading Iraq was a bad idea. I was against it from the very begginning.

Obama is running up debt on purpose, to fullfil an agenda of big federal government, and trying to turn us into France. I truly do think it is a conspiracy, although Obama is just the face man. For example, any idiot could figure out that if a stimulus package were to be used, it would make the most sense to send a check to all taxpayers rich and poor. Instead, money was given to the state with strings attached, with the federal government telling the states what to do with the money, and even requiring permanent rules to be put in place by the states. The Democrats are without question conspiring to push this country closer towards socialism. They will destroy the economy in the process.

Clinton never had us in a surplus, or anywhere close to it. He had a projected surplus that fell short due to the dot-com bust.

Kool Aid is correct. There never was a real surplus. Moreover, it wasn't just the dot-bomb that wiped out the projected surplus. The surplus was projected and didn't take into account several factors. One was a drop in GDP which would have resulted in a recession and unemployment, which in turn would've lowered the tax base, which in turn would've wiped out any purported surplus.

By 9/11, the US was in a recession and worse yet, right afterwards we had 9/11. Which itself created a temporary recession again.

That's why Bush said, "Go out and SPEND" because that caused the economy to rebound.

And if you figure it correctly, the entire war in both Afghanistan and the invasion and occupation of Iraq together didn't amount to but half of what Obama's spent in 6 months.

Get your facts straight.
